Hells a Comin'
Mares/Filly/Broodmares
Hells A Comin is one of the prominent Willinga Park Horses currently competing on the campdrafting circuit. The now 14 year old mare was purchased at the 2018 Landmark Classic Sale from breeder Raelene Higgins.
One Hellofa Spin is a name synonymous with the Australian Cutting industry. Following her success in cutting, which included winning the 2004 NCHA Futurity with Ian Francis, she was inducted into the NCHA Hall of Fame in 2008. She was sired by the great Docs Spinifex and out of a Roc’o’lena mare in Rocs Stardust. Joining her to Bobs Hickory Rio at the end of 2006 resulted in a bay filly with a white star, a striking resemblance of her great mother.
Just like her mother, Hells A Comin mare spent her early years training in the cutting pen with Aaron Wheatley. From there she began her Campdrafting days under the guide of Michael Wilson, who put a solid foundation on her. Once she joined the team of Willinga Park horses campaigned by Troy Palmer, she soon progressed through the ranks to prove herself as an extremely competitive and versatile mare.
Hells A Comin proved that she was a true graduate of the Landmark Sale, returning in 2019 to win the Landmark Masters and backing up in 2020 to win the Nutrien Open. She was also the 2019 ABCRA Novice Horse of the Year.
Her success has only continued, having won five Open and two Ladies campdrafts. A definite highlight of her career was placing 6th in the 2021 Willinga Park Gold Buckle Campdraft and also winning the trophy saddle for the highest aggregate over four rounds. She is currently a contender for the ABCRA Open Horse of the Year and All Round Horse of the Year titles, to be decided later in the year.
Hells A Comin has also been part of the Willinga Park breeding program, with young progeny starting to make their way into the training stables. She is the dam of ‘Hell I’m Smooth’ who is currently transitioning from the cutting pen to the campdraft arena and having great success in both disciplines, already winning a Maiden draft with Matt Moffat.
We have no doubt that we will enjoy seeing the success of this mare and her progeny for years to come.
